Chapter Five

The five-bedroom and six-bathroom house with cathedral ceilings turned out to feel more like home than any place Case had ever lived. He couldn’t explain it. In the end, they had decided to store his furniture in the workshop, but only because there was no other good place to put it. Saul’s house had obviously been lovingly decorated. Each room already had its own set of furniture. Thankfully, there was plenty of space for Case’s personal items. It was only his small amount of bedroom furniture that didn’t have a home. Truthfully, the couch at the apartment had been his. But it was a huge sectional and Case had secretly savored the idea of Lonnie moving it alone. While he had paid a lot for the piece, he knew Lonnie would never leave it on the curb. He was too money-grubbing for that.

By the time they showered and settled in for the night, Case was mentally and physically exhausted. But it felt damn good to be kicked back on a two-person lounge chair, cuddled in Saul’s arms, and covered in a thick blanket with nothing but silence and the sound of the ocean surrounding them.

“It’s ridiculously relaxing here. I love the sound of the ocean.”

Saul kissed the shell of his ear, sending chill bumps skirting across his skin. “That was the biggest selling point for me. When I toured the place, as soon as I heard the waves crashing, and stepped out here to this view, I knew this was home.”

Being early summer, the nights were still cool. He tucked in closer to Saul. “When do you have to go back to work?”

“I’d planned to go back tomorrow, but I think I’ll take an extra day.”

Case hid a smirk. “So I’ll have you to myself for one more day.”

Saul touched his chin, bringing Case’s gaze to meet his stare. “You have me to yourself right now.”

His hand slid across Saul’s stomach. Case let the side of his hand slide just beneath the waistband of Saul’s pajama pants, teasing him. “What should I do with your time?” He didn’t wait for Saul to answer. Case kissed him. He kept it short but hot before slithering lower until he disappeared beneath the blanket. Saul was amazing. He had been there for Case today in a way Case could never repay. While the guy who was supposed to be his best friend failed him on every level, Saul had saved him. Case was quickly becoming way too attached. He had gone from thinking Saul was this off-limits and terrifying person to wanting everything about him. He needed Saul to feel the way he made Case feel. Unfortunately, all he had was his body. It would have to do.
